The Last night

Today is our 25th anniversary!! I can't believe it's been that long. Tonight we are taking this tram up to the restaurant on the top of the hill to celebrate.
Weather today on our last full day here is cold (54 degrees) and rainy, but the views from our hotel are completely amazing. Yesterday we could see a hanging glacier, but today is too foggy. I really have to stress that the pictures just really can not capture the AWESOMENESS of this area.

Look carefully, the restaurant is up there.

Day 8, Girdwood Alaska

Well we gave up on finding large critters in the wild so we visited the local Wildlife Conservation Center. We saw Elk, Bears, Reindeer, Muskox, and Moose up close.

Day 7, Whittier Alaska

Today we drove from Girdwood to Whittier to enjoy a Glacier day cruise. Only way into Whittier is from the ocean on a boat, plane or through the mountain via a one lane tunnel. The tunnel is used by the train as well as cars. Today's weather was cold and rainy, temp was 54. We loaded the cruise boat and enjoyed a prime rib and salmon lunch, while heading out to look at the glaciers. Our critter watch today produced a bald eagle and two otters. Pictures truly do not do the amazing views justice.

Day 6, Girdwood Alaska

Last night after arriving by bus to Anchorage, we picked up a rental car for the duration of our trip. We went out for, all you can eat Crab legs at a local restaurant. After a much needed rest we drove this morning down to Girdwood, AK. Not much here in this little town set in a small valley with forests of trees. It's very secluded and absolutely beautiful. Our activity here started here with a helicopter ride, through the mountains and were dropped off on a glacier. They keep Idiorod dogs here. We met a few of the dogs and got to take a dog sledding ride around the glacier. After the ride we met with the puppies, drank hot cocoa, and flew back to the other side of the mountain. The next three nights will be here in this gorgeous Alyeska hotel, looking at our breathtaking view. Will post pics of the hotel grounds, when we have had a chance to walk around.

Day 5

Uneventful today. Bus back to Anchorage, with a "slight" glimpse of Mt. McKinley. Napped alot. Got to our hotel and went to the ghetto to use the laundromat. Boy, makes me grateful I don't have to do THAT all the time.

Best of the trip yet to come. Tomorrow down to Girdwood where we stay at the Alyeska Resort, take a helicopter to a glacier to ride dog sleds, and take an all day cruise to see the glaciers.

Day 4

Today Jim and I went into the Denali National Park and did some hiking. We were hopeful to see some cool wild animals, like Moose. No Moose, but we did get a great view of an owl. We saw a small squirrel and a beaver dam. As well as the homeless guy, not pictured here!

Jim was suppose to go fishing this morning but somehow missed the bus!
